It probably won’t come as much of a shock to know that these last few days have been a bit of a whirlwind for the Hog Roast Odiham crew. Valentine’s Day always keeps us on our toes and this year? No exception. From door to door, lane to lane, we must have travelled every inch of the village doing what we do best – feeding people properly and spreading a little love along the way.
We were lucky enough to cater some brilliant events – but one in particular really stuck with us. On the afternoon of the 13th (the day before Valentine’s Day) we packed up the van and headed off down a series of narrow, winding roads that felt like they went on forever. Eventually though, we pulled up outside the most charming countryside cottage. And with rolling fields stretching out as far as the eye could see it definitely wasn’t a bad place to set up the grill.
Natasha and Robyn were there to meet us and they were practically dying with excitement. Inspired by Park and Recreation’s Leslie Knope herself, they’d planned a Galentine’s Day get-together for their friendship group – a full-on celebration of friendship, good vibes and, of course, even better food. With another 15 guests on the way Hog Roast Odiham wasted no time getting set up and firing up the grill.
The menu was a real treat – not that we’re tooting our own horn. The girls had opted for a hog roast, and for this event we served one of our suckling pigs – beautifully tender, slightly sweeter than usual and an absolute crowd-pleaser. Alongside that, we cooked up juicy chicken thighs, plus BBQ pulled jackfruit buns for the veggies and vegans which disappeared almost as quickly as the pork.
To really set the tone, we laid out an alfresco platter stacked high with cured meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, artisan breads and dips. Add in plenty of rolls and wraps (because carbs are always a good idea) and the table was looking pretty irresistible.
By the time the guests arrived – all dressed in fabulous shades of pink and red – everything was ready to go. Salads were freshly tossed, the pig was carved, and we got straight to serving.
The whole afternoon went even better than Natasha and Robyn could have pictured. The setting was relaxed and cosy, the music was lively (or maybe that was the cocktails), and the food went down an absolute storm. The girls couldn’t have been happier, and seeing everyone tucking in and enjoying themselves was the seal of approval Hog Roast Odiham had been hoping for.
Galentine’s Day? Consider us huge fans.
