Our latest client had the right idea and invited 30 guests over to help them celebrate turning 50 on the 26th of September – and for a milestone that size, a few
supermarket party platters simply weren’t going to do the job. So they came to us instead, asking Hog Roast Reading to work our usual magic and put together something worthy of the occasion. Naturally, that meant prepping an entire hog for the day.
After hours cooking low and slow the meat inside was beautifully tender, while the crackling was so crisp you could genuinely hear it crunch from metres away. Sage and onion stuffing and applesauce added even more depth of flavour, while mixed salad, coleslaw and fresh rolls and wraps rounded things out nicely, letting guests build their plates exactly how they liked. The result exceeded everything the client had pictured and they couldn’t thank us enough for helping mark their 50th properly.
Our catering manager, Olly, took the lead on this one and spent hours before the party carefully prepping the meat for maximum flavour – scoring the skin, dousing the hog in water and working salt into every inch before letting the grill take over. Several hours later, Olly stood ready with carving knives as guests gathered round, clearly buzzing with anticipation.
