Traditional weddings are wonderful. The full table service, the multiple courses, the servers appearing at just the right moment – for plenty of couples, that’s exactly the day they’ve always pictured and there’s nothing wrong with that.
But it’s not for everyone. And if the idea of a more relaxed, sociable celebration where guests aren’t waiting politely for the next course to arrive sounds more like your kind of day – Hog Roast Hambledon is very much your kind of caterer.
We do elegant when it’s called for. But our sweet spot is the relaxed end of the spectrum – the kind of spread that gets people up, moving around and actually talking to each other as they fill their plates. Good food has a way of breaking the ice faster than any icebreaker activity ever has, and a buffet done well creates a natural energy that a sit-down dinner rarely matches.
Last month, a couple came to us wanting exactly that for their wedding day. One hundred daytime guests and a BBQ menu – which, before you write it off as too casual for a wedding, you haven’t tried ours yet. Hog Roast Hambledon’s take on a BBQ is gourmet in every sense of the word. The presentation gets as much attention as the flavour, and the results tend to surprise people in the best possible way.
A lineup of juicy meats formed the heart of it, with melting cheese and fried onions available for anyone who wanted to take things up a level. Rolls and wraps gave guests the freedom to build their own combinations, salads and a potato dish rounded everything out and two solid veggie and vegan alternatives made sure nobody felt like an afterthought.
Everyone felt relaxed, everyone ate well and nobody hit the dance floor later on that night with a rumbling stomach – which is, genuinely, one of our primary goals. But our work wasn’t quite done.

When another hundred guests joined the celebration later in the evening, Hog Roast Hambledon shifted gears a little bit. We crafted a stunning charcuterie table, featuring everything from Italian cold cuts, fine cheeses and freshly cut fruit to olives, artisan breads and dips. Not only was the kind of spread people could easily graze on at their own pace, but everyone kept finding reasons to return for extra helpings.
We’re thrilled with how this event turned out and even more delighted that the couple had such a fantastic day. So, if you’ve been leaning towards a more casual spread for your wedding day, but are still on the fence, take this as your sign and get in touch with Hog Roast Hambledon today – you’ll be glad you did.
