There’s a school of thought that says don’t stress the details. Let things go. Focus on the big picture.
We respectfully disagree.
At Hog Roast Avington, sweating the small stuff is one of the founding blocks of our business – and when it comes to wedding catering, we’d argue it’s exactly the right approach. Because on a day that big, with that many people and that much riding on everything going smoothly, those little details are what separate a good experience from an unforgettable one.
That’s not pressure talking. That’s just thirty-plus years of showing up for couples and understanding what the job actually means. Because when someone hands you the catering for the most important day of their life, you don’t take that lightly. Which brings us to our latest adventure…
Earlier this month, Hog Roast Avington had the pleasure of helping a wonderful couple feed 70 guests at their wedding nearby. They’d chosen our Southern Slow Roast Menu – already a brilliant decision – but wanted to add something extra to make it feel uniquely theirs. We love being able to offer bespoke meal plans and firmly believe that customisation is where the fun starts.
So we built in an antipasti grazing table to kick things off. Italian meats styled every which way from roses to rolls, a selection of the finest cheeses, artisan breads, fresh fruit, dipping oils, balsamic vinegar – the whole works. It worked out perfectly for giving the guests something to gather around while they settled in, chatted and sipped champagne.
Then came the Southern Slow Roast itself. Three Deep South-inspired meat options, each one slow-cooked to the kind of tenderness that makes people go quiet for a moment when they take the first bite. A trio of sauces covered everything from smoky-sweet to properly fiery, letting guests build their own flavour experience. And for non-meat-eaters, grilled veggie skewers and BBQ-pulled jackfruit sliders meant nobody was circling the table looking lost. Fresh salads and all-American sides rounded everything out, offering guests the freedom to play around with unique flavour combinations and build their dream plates.
The couple were thrilled. The guests were well-fed. And every small detail we’d sweated over? Completely worth it.
So, if you’re planning a wedding and want catering you can hand off completely – Hog Roast Avington is ready when you are.
